A busy couple of weeks

The sun has been out, the grass court season is in full swing (for the professionals at least – here at Musters we prefer out grass in a slightly more durable form!) and the World Cup is building towards a hopefully dramatic conclusion.  And Musters has been a hive of activity.

The Hodgkins put on a highly successful BBQ, with the chicken skewers a particular highlight. With lots of money raised towards club funds, and a good night had by all, they have got the outdoor grilling job for the foreseeable future.

Several members volunteered at the Nottingham Open, where Jo Konta and Dan Evans reached the women’s and men’s final respectively but both ultimately ended up coming second on finals day.

And our own tournaments are well underway, with a record number of entries in the over-50s singles tournaments.  (It is the first year we have run it.)  We had eight couples for the mixed doubles tournament on Thursday and after a hard fought round robin followed by two tense semi finals, Lisa and Matt set up a final with Amy and Ian.  The first weekend in September should produce the kind of tennis that people camp overnight at Wimbledon for!

Bar profits have also been boosted by England’s unexpectedly long run in the World Cup.  Indeed, the bar will again be open for business this afternoon for all those brave enough to put themselves through the ordeal of watching the Three Lions take on Sweden.  Kick off is at 3pm – see you there!
